Liberal Democrats on West Devon Borough Council
Cllr
Ken Williams
Okehampton West Ward
Ken was born in Newton Abbot and moved to Okehampton in
1952. He was educated at Okehampton Primary and grammar Schools, and went on to
Exeter University.
He was for a while a police constable in Torquay, but
until his recent retirement most of his career has been in the teaching
profession. For ten years he was head of the English department at
Okehampton College, where he taught with his father, who later left to become
vicar of Bridestowe and Sourton.
He has been married to Sandra for 34 years, and his son
Michael, who was also educated at Okehampton College, is a lecturer at
Southampton University. They have lived at different times in Okehampton,
Sticklepath and Folly Gate.
His interests include local history, folk-lore and
wildlife. With his family he enjoys the company of animals and living close to
Dartmoor. He often works as a volunteer in the Museum of Dartmoor Life.
Since retiring, he has been especially involved in
campaigning and advocacy on road safety issues, and has worked as a volunteer
supporting those bereaved and injured in road crashes. He is a national
Committee member of the charity Roadpeace.
